Dr Tshepo P. Maaka

Head of Business Development & Director of Medical Animation at Cabblow Studios

 

Dr Tshepo P. Maaka is a qualified clinician with over 27 years' experience. She is a Wits alumna with post-graduate training in both anaesthesiology and public health management. She partnered with her daughter in forming Cabblow Studios 5 years ago.  She has produced, to date, 9 short films. Among them is “3 Teaspoons of Sugar”, which has garnered 16 official film festival selections internationally including Annecy international Animation Festival, CARDIFF & Cape Town International Film Festival.

 

Dr T, together with Kabelo are combining their skills in medicine/business and animation to carve out a unique niche in the South African animation market.

 

Kabelo Maaka

Kabelo Maaka is an Animation Director, 2D Animator, Illustrator, Podcaster & Animation lecturer with 5 years' experience in various aspects of the animation pipeline. She is a visionary with a warm and infectious personality. She made her debut as a director with her short film “3 Teaspoons of Sugar” in November 2019. She has since directed 2 more short films “When It’s Risky” and “The Little Teaspoon of Sugar” both released in 2021.

 

Kabelo has also acted as mentor in the first Cabblow Studios Virtually Animation Residency guiding 5 young directors as they each produced their first animation short film. Kabelo is truly a gamechanger ranking amongst the winners of the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South African Awards 2021 under the Film & Media category.
