LE PETIT NICHOLAS + Q&A
Friday 24 March 2023
5:45pm | Chapter Cinema 1
(French with English subtitles)
£6 / £4 included in the Festival Pass

What are we waiting for to be happy? Winner of the Cristal at Annecy 2022, this is a tender film full of nostalgia and resilience, which will delight adults and their children alike.

Somewhere between Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Jean-Jacques Sempé and René Goscinny lean over a large white sheet of paper and bring to life a mischievous and endearing boy, Little Nicholas. From schoolyard games and fights to summer camp prank and camaraderie, Nicholas lives a merry and enriching childhood. As the adventures of Nicholas and his friends unfold, the boy makes his way into his creators’ workshop and light-heartedly questions them. Sempé and Goscinny will recount the story of their friendship, career, and reveal a childhood filled with hopes and dreams.

The screening is followed by a Q+A with co-director Benjamin Massoubre hosted by Cardiff Animation Festival's Nia Alavezos

Join us and other festival goers after the film for some mini food in the Cinema Foyer.

Am beth rydyn ni'n aros i fod yn hapus?

Yn enillydd y Cristal yn Annecy 2022, dyma ffilm dyner yn llawn hiraeth a gwydnwch, a fydd yn swyno oedolion a’u plant fel ei gilydd.

Yn rhywle rhwng Montmartre a Saint-Germain-des-Prés, mae Jean-Jacques Sempé a René Goscinny yn pwyso dros ddalen fawr wen o bapur ac yn dod â bachgen direidus ac annwyl, Little Nicholas yn fyw. O gemau buarth ac ymladd i hwyl gwersylla haf a chyfeillgarwch, mae Nicholas yn byw plentyndod llawen a chyfoethog. Wrth i anturiaethau Nicholas a’i ffrindiau ddatblygu, mae’r bachgen yn gwneud ei ffordd i mewn i weithdy ei grewyr ac yn eu holi’n harti. Bydd Sempé a Goscinny yn adrodd hanes eu cyfeillgarwch, eu gyrfa, ac yn datgelu plentyndod yn llawn gobeithion a breuddwydion.

Bydd sesiwn Holi ac Ateb (gyda chapsiynau) gyda’r cyfarwyddwr Benjamin Massoubre, wedi’i gadeirio gan Nia Alavezos o’r Cardiff Animation Festival a’i recordio o flaen llaw, yn dilyn y dangosiad.

Ymunwch â ni a mynychwyr eraill yr ŵyl ar ôl y ffilm am fwydydd bach yng Nghyntedd y Sinema.
