RICHARD HURFORD 

 

Richard is an experienced academic with 18 years of experience in Higher Education, designing and delivering video games courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He is the coordinator of the South Wales Hub for the UK Games Fund’s graduate talent development programme – Tranzfuser. 

Richard is currently USW’s lead for Media Cymru, responsible for a team of researchers focusing on understanding skills and training needs of the screen and media sector across Wales, with a view to developing training and support initiatives. He was previously Co-Investigator for Clwstwr, where he supported over 20 R&D projects with companies from across the screen sector, including film, TV, animation & games. He was also a Co-Investigator for Audience of the Future Demonstrator - Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up - an augmented and mixed reality interactive experience. 

Richard has published the only survey of the Video Games industry in Wales, which for the first time mapped the number of games companies, their size and location. Making extensive recommendations on how the industry could be better supported. He is also member of the BAFTA Cymru Awards Sub-committee and Creative Wales’ Digital Stakeholder group.
