JOANNA QUINN ANIMATION MASTERCLASS

Joanna Quinn is one of Britain’s most distinctive animators. Her films have won just about every major international award, including BAFTAs and Emmys, and have received three Oscar® nominations.

Her first film, Girls Night Out (1987), featuring working-class heroine Beryl, was a celebration of uninhibited female sexuality that won three major awards at Annecy. Since then, Joanna and her writing and producing partner, Les Mills, have created three more films featuring Beryl: Body Beautiful; Dreams and Desires: Family Ties; and Affairs of the Art, released last year, which is now BAFTA- and Oscar®-nominated.

The politics of gender and oppression, along with Joanna’s fascination with the eccentricities of the female body, remain central themes of Joanna’s work.

In this masterclass, Joanna talks will take us behind the scenes of her incredible work, letting us into her creative process, showing artwork and clips, and animating live on stage.

Joanna Quinn yw un o animeiddwyr mwyaf nodedig Prydain. Mae ei ffilmiau wedi ennill bron bob gwobr ryngwladol fawr, gan gynnwys BAFTAs ac Emmys, ac wedi derbyn tri enwebiad Oscar®.

Roedd ei ffilm gyntaf, Girls Night Out (1987), yn cynnwys arwres dosbarth gweithiol Beryl, yn ddathliad o rywioldeb benywaidd di-rwystr a enillodd dair gwobr fawr yn Annecy. Ers hynny, mae Joanna a’i phartner ysgrifennu a chynhyrchu, Les Mills, wedi creu tair ffilm arall sy’n cynnwys Beryl: Body Beautiful; Dreams and Desires: Family Ties; and Affairs of the Art, a ryddhawyd y llynedd, sydd bellach wedi'u henwebu am BAFTA ac Oscar®.

Mae gwleidyddiaeth rhywedd a gormes, ynghyd â chyfaredd Joanna â hynodrwydd y corff benywaidd, yn parhau i fod yn themâu canolog yng ngwaith Joanna.

Yn y dosbarth meistr hwn, bydd sgyrsiau Joanna yn mynd â ni y tu ôl i lenni ei gwaith anhygoel, gan ein gadael ni i mewn i’w phroses greadigol, gan ddangos gwaith celf a chlipiau, ac animeiddio’n fyw ar y llwyfan.
