A brand new celebration of animation is coming to Cardiff in April 2018! Over four days, from 19 - 22 April 2018, Cardiff Animation Festival (CAF) will showcase some of the best animation from all over the world for adults, families and filmmakers, with a broad selection of animated short films, features, masterclasses, workshops, filmmaker Q+As, retrospectives, an education program, behind the scenes screenings, industry events, panels, networking events and parties.
Held at Chapter, the Welsh capital’s vibrant arts hub, CAF will provide a brand new focal point for Cardiff’s thriving animation community, and a meeting place for industry, independent animators and enthusiasts from the wider animation world. CAF will provide a new platform in Wales for the best of British and international animation, and will welcome independent filmmakers, exciting new talent and established industry greats to Europe’s youngest capital city.

Feature films
Including a screening of Oscar-nominated The Breadwinner, a stunning animated drama about a little girl living under Taliban rule, ahead of its UK release. Plus a chance to see behind the scenes.
Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires Exhibition
Hot off the sets of Animortal Studio’s brand new stop motion feature film made in Bridgend, the Trampires are set to invade Cardiff with their very own four-day exhibition! Get face to face with the incredible puppets from the film, the amazingly detailed miniature streets of LA, and meet the hero himself, Chuck Steel!
Q+As
We’ve invited some of the world’s most prolific animators and filmmakers to Cardiff. Come and see behind the scenes and find out how your new favourite animated work was created, frame by painstaking frame.
Workshops
Whether you’re aged 8 or 80, get involved and try your hand at making your very own animation. Plus detailed workshops for seasoned animators.

Meet the animators - including a masterclass with Grant Orchard, creator of the multiple BAFTA-winning preschool favourite Hey Duggee.

ABOUT OUR TEAM
Cardiff Animation Festival is a non-profit community organisation run by a team of animation lovers and creators living in Cardiff - Lauren Orme, Dani Abram, Chris Wright, Laura Tofarides, Telor Gwyn, Chris James, Josh Flynn and Adam Bailey.
The Cardiff Animation Festival team have been running animation events in Wales since 2014. Starting with bimonthly screenings of independent animated short films, Cardiff Animation Nights, to an animation strand at Cardiff Independent Film Festival, Public Choice screenings for the British Animation Awards, school outreach programs, workshops, networking events and masterclasses.
The Cardiff Animation Festival team are supported by a festival committee including internationally- renowned Cardiff-based director Joanna Quinn and producer Les Mills, Director of Cinema at Chapter and Film Hub Wales Sally Griffith, Managing Director of Cloth Cat Animation Jon Rennie, and independent producer and Director of Animation UK Helen Brunsdon.
